handmade fabric acorns

These handmade fabric acorns are one of my favorites! You can make a handful in just a short amount of time and does not require craft skills. You really cannot mess this one up. So go for it!

tip for a curated handmade fabric acorn decor

I absolutely love how these little handmade fabric acorns turned out. The only thing I would do different is coordinate my fabrics better. I used left over scrap fabrics and while I love each piece of fabric, they do not go together perfectly… and my inner perfectionist wishes I would have thought through that one a little better. So if you are buying fabric, make sure to coordinate three to five different fabric designs or solids so all your cutie acorns look well curated… unlike mine…. whoopsies!

How to decorate with handmade acorns

My favorite way to decorate with these cuties is in a small shallow dish. It really shows them off and keeps them contained well. A cute bowl, basket, or tray would work great too. These little decorative handmade acorns add so much to any fall or autumn home design.

materials

Craft eggs like these

Fabric cut into four inch circles

Hot Glue

Twine

Small twig

Instructions

  1. Purchase and collect all materials
  2. Cut fabric into four inch circles. I used a ribbon spool that was about four inches to trace onto a fabric square then cut them out. Try to use fabric scissors or really sharp scissors to make sure your fabric cuts nicely.
  3. Place a tiny dot of hot glue onto the bottom of your egg. Place it in the middle of one of your circle pieces of fabric. This will help to keep the fabric in place for the next step.
  4. Wrap the fabric around the egg using your hot glue to secure it on the egg trying to create even folds as you go.
  5. Glue twine to the top of the egg starting just below the top of the fabric.
  6. Gather a few sticks from outside and cut them into 1/4 to 1/2 inch pieces for the stems.
  7. Using the hot tip of your glue gun make a tiny hole in the tip of your acorn where you glued the twin. Add a generous dot of glue to the hole you just created and press in your stem until the glue has dried.
  8. Repeat until you’ve made your desired amount.
