Fresh squeezed lemonade (with a bonus tip on how to use the rinds)

Is there anything better than fresh squeezed lemonade on a beautiful sunny day? In my humble opinion… there is not :). This homemade lemonade is super easy, quick, and delicious. Best part is instead of throwing those used rinds in the trash you can repurpose them and kill two birds with one stone. In the world of natural living learning how to work smarter not harder is a must! I’ve learned learning this the hard way.

How to make Fresh squeeze lemonade

Ingredients

  • Lemons (preferably organic)
  • Water
  • Sugar (I usually use cane sugar, but coconut sugar would be great as well)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  • Using your palm roll and push on fresh lemons to loosen the juice.
  • Cut lemons in half and juice. You want at least 1.5 cups. If I juice a whole bag of lemons I can end up with over 2 cups. I use whatever amount I get and it’s always delicious. If it is too sour just add a little more water. Easy peasy lemon squeezy (see what I did there 😉 ). I usually grab a bag of lemons when I need a fresh lemon or two for a recipe and use the leftovers for fresh squeezed lemonade.
  • Boil 1 cup of sugar with 3 cups of water. Let cool.
  • Pour 5 cups of water and fresh squeezed lemon juice into a glass jug.
  • Add the sugar water to jug with water and lemon juice.
  • Stir to incorporate.
  • Pour over ice and enjoy :). Store in refrigerator.

Bonus tip on how to use the rinds

Don’t throw those lemon rinds away! Instead make your own all natural, non-toxic multi-purpose cleaner. Put the used lemon rinds into a glass jar like this one. Top off the jar with vinegar. Make sure your lemon rinds are always under the vinegar to avoid mold. Let sit on your counter for about two weeks. Strain out the rinds and fill a glass spray bottle with half lemon vinegar mixture and half water (distilled is best). Use as a non-toxic multipurpose cleaner in your home.
